Twists & Turns — The Geopolitical Outlook
In 2016 I had a conversation with a leader in the UK who asked me if I thought Trump had a chance becoming the Republican Presidential nominee. He was surprised when I said yes. Later I shared a prediction he’d win the Presidency. This time — just a few months back in conversation with my husband about our two unpopular nominees, I said ‘just wait there’s going to be twists and turns coming.’ We don’t know when, or how, but trust me, it’ll play out — we just can’t see it yet…. and oh my we’re seeing it in spades.
And alongside all that we’ve witnessed elections in Iran, France, the UK, India. There are two highly visible wars going on. China remains a wildcard in general and in Taiwan. It’s nuts out there.
And yet we have to operate. Forget technical change. Forget AI, generative and otherwise. Forget the economy, inflation, interest rates, and customer budgets. The geopolitical environment is critical context in which we have to come to work, lead, get our jobs done and navigate up, down, and outside the stakeholder ladder. It’s enough to drive any leader bonkers but we don’t get a bye. So, what’s a leader to do?
