The countdown continues to Outsell’s Signature Event and our Emerging Company Growth Tank. It all leads to a list of companies that represent the key themes in Outsell’s 2018 Annual Industry Outlook — released at the event. We’ll also pick two winners. Today we’re announcing the Top 30, chosen based on the following criteria:
· Uniqueness of approach with an innovative business model, particularly around the use of data and analytics or the potential to harness data exhaust at scale.
· Market runway with potential for real revenue growth.
· Addresses real market pain points.
· Where they reside on Outsell’s Data Business Pyramid — Comprehensive Data? Smart Data? Workflow? Analytics?
· Platform Type (maps to platform report) — None? Marketplace? Community? Data? Workflow?
Then, we excluded companies recently acquired or that exceeded size requirements and culled several “look alikes.” Unsurprisingly, Fintech holds the most spots in our top 30, but STM holds a close second. There is a lot of innovation going on around data-driven solutions for financial services, which leads the industry and always has. Right now, there is a lot of innovation supporting innovation — R&D, scholarly research and basic science, engineering, and healthcare.
