AI Everywhere All at Once: Questions We’re Answering.

AI Everywhere All at Once: Questions We’re Answering.

Ever since news broke late last year, we’ve been fielding questions about generative AI, starting with clients asking us for a list of questions they should be asking. That’s the kind of head-spinning topic Generative AI is — a factor that led us to our meta-theme for the year, AI Everywhere All at Once. Between programing Outsell Leadership Council meetings all year, all the way through to the Outsell Signature Event in Hampshire, we’ve been researching, analyzing, and advising on these topics.

We’ve published analysis — now easy to find in our new Artificial Intelligence channel — on use cases in each of our major industry segments, with more to come. And in a recent piece on operational use cases we reflected on where the technology can be put to use inside the companies we all run — data, information, and content-enabled tech businesses.

What we are answering of late revolves around five key themes, which we’ll be publishing best practices and benchmarks and other analysis about in the coming year:

  1. Industry use cases and case studies on where the technology is being applied and why
  2. Implementation patterns and best practices
  3. IP licensing recommendations (both inbound and outbound)
  4. Talent & change management implications
  5. Measuring ROI on AI investments

Some specific questions include:

  • How should we respond to AI model developers asking to use our content for training purposes?
  • How might competitors handle their data licensing differently, and how do we respond?
  • What are our customers doing internally, and what are the opportunities and risks?
  • How do we manage IP leakage from AI models?
  • How are people measuring ROI for their AI innovation efforts?
  • When sourcing data for our own AI models, are we licensing data at benchmark levels or better in terms of spend, types of sources, number of sources?
  • What are the trade-offs between different model types for different use cases?
  • How are leaders upskilling people e.g. training them for new roles or training them on using AI properly and responsibility?
  • What policies and guardrails have companies like us issued?
  • Where can we augment human talent with machines and where is it best to have ‘humans in the loop’?

At Outsell, we’re addressing these questions through research, analysis, benchmarking, peer-group conversations, or inquiry privilege calls — and increasingly through targeted consulting to formulate coherent AI strategies. Our 2024 Outsell Signature Event will once again be focused on AI Everywhere All at Once: The Journey Continues.

Because you are facing big questions with big implications, and major impact on costs or revenues, generative AI raises existential questions. Risks are high. Mistakes are expensive. Now is not the time to fly blind. We’ve got you covered and await your call.
