The Outsell Signature Event: Designing for Millions One User at A time

When we emailed Michael Hansen, CEO of Cengage Learning about speaking at the Outsell Signature Event, co-produced with JEGI, it was right after the announcement of the proposed merger with McGraw-Hill Education and we knew that Michael would be leading the combined companies. Our letter to him went something like this:

….we cannot ask for a talk about your plans or about how things are progressing by then, and that is in any case, not our point … What we would like to hear is what went through your mind when this opportunity arose? What priorities and what potential pitfalls did you face? How do you conceptualize handling change on this scale? And how do you keep the human dimension moving while you are doing it? ….

And with Michael’s response came a phrase that resonates to this day. He spoke of the excitement that came with bringing two amazing brands together and into the esteemed McGraw-Hill name.

And more so he wrote about the impact of educating millions of users one at a time.

That inspired me and I knew we needed to learn more about it. How do you personalize, at scale, one user at a time, something as intimate as education and as impactful as learning outcomes? This is a mighty challenge, one he and his team will face. Yes, there are the regulators to get past, the closing that must be done and the signing and integration that must occur. This doesn’t concern us as much as those questions we raised and how he thinks of them while fulfilling a promise of educating millions one user at a time.

Personalization. It’s key to delivering tomorrow’s solutions and hearing this leaders perspective on how to do it while handling change at scale and keeping the human dimension in mind?? It’s critical at the core of ever information solutions’ future. How do we deliver value one customer at a time and with leverage, scale, recurring revenues and all the dream-ticket items this industry is known for. We can’t wait to hear what Mr. Hansen has to say and know you can’t either.

We look forward to seeing you at The Watergate Hotel in Washington DC, October 2–3. Register today!
