The A-Z of the 2024 Outsell Signature Event
Our theme for this year’s Signature Event reflected the evolution of artificial intelligence technologies, and the move from hype to reality. In the downtown surroundings of Boston, delegates and speakers gathered to determine the best ways in which to create value in the AI era.
A is for … AI (again) but this time with a focus on the practicalities
B is for … Boston, a beautifully sunny host city
C is for … Celebrating our community of far-sighted leaders
D is for … Data which as Jane Lomax of SciBite showed us must be well-organized if we are to exploit the opportunities on offer
E is for … Energy and the vast amounts that will be required to power the AI models of the future
F is for … Florida, where some attendees were unfortunately confined due to Hurricane Milton
G is for … Geopolitics, and a chilling tour de force from Harvard’s Meghan O’Sullivan explaining the global transitions fueling flashpoints around the world
H is for … Hype, which was so 2023 while 2024 was all about the move to an AI reality.
I is for … Information Industry Outlook, which laid out Outsell’s three year predictions
J is for … JEGI CLARITY, Outsell’s long term valued partner in the seventeenth year of this event
K is for … Knowledge, with users seeking not just data but actionable insights
L is for … Licensing, a critical and growing revenue stream arising from the demands of generative AI technology providers looking to train their large language models
M is for … M&A, which JEGI CLARITY’s Wilma Jordan said was going through the longest period of slowdown in the last 35 years
N is for … Networking, always a strength of the Outsell Signature Event
O is for … Operating efficiencies, discussed in a panel session on how generative AI can improve productivity
P is for … Prompt engineering, a critical skill for all knowledge economy workers
Q is for … Quality, and the opportunities for niche solutions providers to serve market demands which the generic LLMs could never handle
R is for … ROI, and the practical steps companies are taking to gain value from their internal and external AI investments
S is for … Sybil, the AI model built by Professor Regina Barzilay and her team at MIT which can accurately predict the likelihood of a person developing lung cancer in six years’ time, something no human radiologist could ever do
T is for … Trusted content, which to our surprise was not considered critical to some respondents of Outsell’s End User Survey
U is for … Untangle, as companies seek to clarify the product attributes and business models of their nascent generative AI solutions.
V is for … Value creation, an essential element for solutions facilitating internal efficiencies as well as for external product development
W is for … Where will the Signature Event be next year? Somewhere in Europe from October 8–9, so save the date!
X is for … Xylophone, the mini-instrument that sent attendees scurrying to their seats at the end of each break
Y is for … Yearly, as we look forward to gathering again in 2025.
Z is for … Zigzags. There will be plenty of these on the way to the AI future.
