Success Across Generations

The Outsell Women’s Conference: Success Across Generations

Last year at the Outsell Women’s Conference Karyn Schoenbart, CEO of The NPD Group, a leading research company, talked to the audience about the Imposter Syndrome. Author of Mom MBA and full of wisdom she had the group on the edge of their seat as she spoke of the conversations women have with themselves that can hold us back. We were so inspired by what she had to share we’ve invited her back, this year with her daughter.

Danielle Sporkin, SVP Global Client Partner at Essence Global to talk about Success Across Generations. Danielle was the inspiration of Mom MBA feeling like she received one throughout her childhood as Karyn passed on lessons from business that were about ‘doing life.’ They are an inspiring mentor and mentee, mother and daughter, standing for so much wisdom across and between generations. Personally, I can’t wait to have them join us because I feel it’s every woman’s duty to pay it forward, with gratitude, to the career women who came before us.

We will have women on the podium at this event from across the generations. In the audience too. And I can tell you that the career women in their 70s who blazed trails for us, fought insurmountable odds, that got easier with each generation. I recall keenly being in my 20s and 30s knowing I had it easier in my corporate roles because of the ground broken by those who came before me. And today women like Karyn have made progress making it easier for those who come after us. When today’s young career women go to work and have benefits for infertility, longer maternity leaves, the ability to blend work and family and work from home, they have those who came before them to thank. I recall women of two generations ago who chose not to have children because they didn’t think it was possible and had to make a choice. And what a choice to make. So when we sit back and think about how far we’ve come we can acknowledge we still have work to do — the gender parity statistics in our industry show it — there is inequity in the c-suite and in the corner office — but we can appreciate the progress we’ve made and the role models we’ve been given.

Danielle and Karyn will speak about what makes the generations different or not. How to succeed. What companies can do better to improve retention of high potential female talent and so much more. I’m thrilled Karyn is joining us and so happy Danielle will be alongside her.
