Driving Growth in the Data Economy — Reaching New Markets

One of the most frequent topics we’re asked about is expansion into international markets. We’ve investigated veterinarian information in Denmark, freemium legal models in Poland, as well as new solutions in Latin America, India, and China galore. Indeed, growth in our industry often comes from new regions as much as natural adjacencies for target markets or content.
Entering new geographic markets is no easy feat. There are legal, regulatory, and cultural hurdles. There are implicit norms. Some leaders hire local leadership; some export leaders to set up regions before transitioning to leaders from a region. Data in new markets has its own peculiarities, and given that each country is often an island unto itself, there are of course complexities involved in the management of similar solutions in multiple countries. But growth is the mantra of the day, as we’ve written before, and it must come from new products and solutions, product extensions, new content, new target markets, and new geographic ones.
Organic growth is hard to come by, and faster growing economic markets hold deep promise. But, how much? How do leaders pick which markets and why? Partner, buy, or go local? What are the successes and pitfalls? How deep must pockets be and how long timeframes? Some countries require a very, very long view, and only the largest companies are fit for purpose. But, we are in a global economy and global markets beckon. How enticing? How fraught?
We’ve asked Corinne Saunders, CEO, Emerging & Developing Markets from Wolters Kluwer to share the way. Corinne’s full of practical experience and thoughtful guidance, and in keeping with the spirit of all things Outsell’s Signature Event, she promises a lively case study to continue us on the growth journey this year’s event will take you. This is a must attend event and must attend topic because, sooner or later, just about every CEO I know is going to look abroad wherever they are and think about where to go and knowing how best to get there is essential. Why not learn from the best?
We can’t wait to see her and you there, register today. If you are a member of Outsell’s Leadership Council, registration is included — a great benefit for a great event! We’ve got an amazing venue and a wonderful program taking shape. Mark your calendars, October 4–5 at the Boston Harbor Hotel.
