Last week Outsell partner Product Growth Leaders facilitated another meeting of the Outsell Product & Technology Council consisting of product leaders in our industry focused on building best-in-class data, information, and analytics solutions. We discussed our latest research on the function, current issues, and their resolution. So, what’s on the mind of CPOs these days:

1. Measures of success and alignment on those KPI measures with other functions.

2. How to improve time in market and with customers or other external facing matters; the average time spent is 25% outside institutional walls and the numbers have to improve.

3. And that led to a discussion about roles and responsibilities — role confusion, overlap, lack of clarity, and other items having to do with “RASI.” Memo to CEOs, Presidents, COOs, and MDs out there — this is bogging down product performance and time to market, and time to revenue. Consider any items around role confusion as speed bumps and friction on your information services business highway. Take the time to take your org thru RASI and who does what. It’s essential. We also discussed where role clarity happened the most and how to solve for it.

4. Ensuring the function is considered a core business and strategic role.
